Introducing Clarkdale’s First Solar Ambassador – Karen Daniels
Karen Daniels, passionate environmental steward, Clarkdale Planning Commissioner, and a solar advocate from way back recently stepped up as the Town of Clarkdale’s very first Solar Ambassador.
As a Solar Ambassador, Karen will help fellow Clarkdale residents learn about solar energy and ways in which they can join in Clarkdale’s effort to have 5% of our owner-occupied homes using solar power by 2015.
This role in the community became possible when Clarkdale’s Town Council voted on March 22nd to adopt the Arizona Solar Challenge put forward by Arizona Smart Power, a non-profit working on expanding solar implementations throughout the state. Pictured here with her husband Brian, the Daniels’ Family designed and built their Clarkdale home chock full of environmentally-sensitive features.
From the structure itself with its deep wrap around porch and its 6 inch concrete house slab with high density foam insulation underneath to Energy Star everything (doors, windows, radiant barrier, insulation, and appliances) to its 3-zone, 4-panel solar heated hydronic radiant floor heating system, and of course, the 33-panel array 7.92 kW photovoltaic solar system with bi-directional meter, the Daniels’ home abounds in all sorts of great ideas.
These are but a mere few of the many ways in which this innovative family is leading by example and taking full advantage of renewable energy and other sustainability ideas. Karen will be at the Town of Clarkdale’s upcoming Sustainability in Our Backyard event on May 7th at the Town Hall Complex in Clarkdale.
She’s planning on setting up a table so she can visit with folks interested in learning from lessons learned as her family built their solar home.
Please stop by to say hello from 8 a.m. until noon. There will be lots to see and do.
In the meantime, if you have ideas or would like to participate in the town’s Sustainable Clarkdale initiative, please contact Jodie Filardo at Jodie.Filardo@Clarkdale.AZ.gov or (928) 639-2542.
